Artist Statement
“I spent most of my life in the mountains. Especially the Mountains in the Western Cape of South Africa. You can't help but notice the impact we as humans have on the environment when you spend time on top of mountains, looking down, over decades. You literally get another perspective. Even though I cherish the time I get to spend there I also understand the fragility of these spaces and how easy it is for us to cause irreversible damage. This drawing does little to honour the immense diversity of life out there but it's meant to draw some attention to our role and hopefully set in motion positive action.” - Gerhard
