Artist Statement

“This painting was a joy for me to create. Clouded leopards are unique and beautiful animals with boldly patterned fur, long thick tails, impressive canine teeth, and specialized anatomy that allows them to climb and hang from trees unlike most other cat species. The golden map within the painting is based on nighttime satellite images of their natural habitat which stretches from eastern India to southern China. Unfortunately, these incredible animals are facing threats from habitat loss and poaching. My painting enmeshes clouded leopards with the cites of Southeast Asia because the survival of these cats is genuinely tied to their geography and the people that inhabit the lands alongside them.” - Francine Fox.
